On average, it is recommended to change oil every 3,000 miles or every 6 months. However, some engines have modern lubricants that allow doing an oil change less often – every 5,000-7,500 miles. Moreover, if you use full-synthetic oil for your vehicle, it might go as far as 15,000 miles between oil changes.
The longer you have old oil in your engine, the poorer the performance of the car’s engine will be. Old oil in a vehicle may cause thermal breakdown, which makes the oil incapable of providing the necessary lubrication for metal parts of the car. Without proper lubrcation, they will start rubbing against each other, which will lead to premature wear. Moreover, there is a high concentration of particles in the oil that can begin to settle by causing corrosion.
